Strengthening Social & Workforce Sustainability for Business Resilience and Performance

Workplaces that work for everyone, grounded in inclusion

LeadWomen supports organisations in moving beyond standalone initiatives towards embedded, system-wide approaches that create lasting change. We transform how organisations think, lead, and grow.

Why now?

Regulatory and reporting expectations are actively increasing across the region

Malaysia became the first ASEAN economy to mandate ISSB-aligned sustainability disclosures through the National Sustainability Reporting Framework

Workforce expectations around diversity, equity, and inclusion directly influence employer attractiveness and talent decisions

A recent study showed that 52% of Malaysians would not accept a job at an organisation perceived as not proactive in improving diversity and inclusion

Despite these pressures, DEI efforts often fail to clearly connect to workforce sustainability, ESG priorities, or measurable organisational outcomes.

The Implementation Gap

Although many organisations have taken steps to advance gender inclusion and broader workforce and workplace priorities, challenges still emerge in integrating these efforts across organisational systems, leadership governance and operations. Some common examples include:

Fragmented initiatives

Programmes and initiative may exist in pockets but many lack integration across the wider value chain.

Limited linkage to social outcomes

DEI efforts may not clearly connect to workforce sustainability, ESG priorities, employee experience, or measurable organisational outcomes.

Difficulty in translating intent into action

Organisations may have strong aspirations, but face challenges applying practical frameworks, governance structures, and measurable KPIs.

Accountability and governance gaps

Ownership, progress tracking, and long-term accountability mechanisms are often inconsistently defined or embedded.

Addressing these challenges requires more integrated approaches that strengthen alignment, accountability, implementation, and long-term organisational sustainability.

Workforce Sustainability Masterclass

What does a sustainable workforce actually look like in practice?

Many organisations are already doing the work through initiatives around inclusion, wellbeing, talent, culture and sustainability. But these efforts can often sit across different teams, priorities and strategies. The harder question is: how do we connect the dots?

This October, LeadWomen, together with the Institute for Developing Across Differences (IDD), is bringing together HR, People & Culture, Sustainability, DEI and workforce transformation practitioners for a one-day Workforce Sustainability Masterclass.

Through facilitated discussions, practical exercises and peer learning, we will explore what workforce sustainability means in the Malaysian context, how it connects to the broader social sustainability agenda and how the Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Benchmarks (GDEIB) can provide a structured lens for thinking about workforce inclusion.

The session also serves as a pre-certification introduction to GDEIB, for those interested in progressing towards the IDD Certified Practitioner Programme.
